Homelessness Task Force

Summary

A group of parishioners organizes efforts to reach out to the homeless in a variety of ways: Hosting an overnight shelter in our church during the winter months and supporting the Habitat for Humanity Project to build low income housing with and for poor families.

St. Therese / St. Martin de Porres Winter Homeless Shelter

Basic Facts About Our Shelter

•  Runs October 1st through March 31st (Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday nights)
•  2 trained parishioners volunteer to staff the shelter each night
•  10 elderly homeless men are picked up from St. Martin de Porres Shelter
•  The men stay at the shelter from 9:30 pm till 6:30 am
•  Five other churches also run similar shelters in partnership with St. Martin’s Shelter
•  St. Therese has operated this shelter since 1997
